Establishing The Merits And Demerits Of Bottling And Kegging

By George Baker

Brewing at home may be fun, but there is much of thinking when it comes to packing the drink. Many are usually disturbed with new Brewers being more confused since they all seem not aware of the ups and downs of bottling and kegging which fall in their entire brewing process.

This debate can go up to infinity. Each person will always want to show how better their method of storage is better than the other. This makes new brewers be thoroughly mixed up since even the beer companies will never settle for a particular method. In reality, however, both of these two approaches are not perfect neither bad.

For you to make that tasty beer that you yearn for, then be ready to take your time and come up with an uninfluenced judgment on which means take. Kegs are attributed to clear beer since they have ample space where the yeast can easily settle. They also face little disturbance as one gets beer from them. Bottles are affected by movements hence the yeast appears to be floating in your drink.

It is known that being a home brewer you will want everything to as simple as possible. This is why you should go for a bottle which requires simple and few equipment. It can be much easy if done direct from the fermenter. There is a complicated approach if you go for the cylinder since you will need extra tools like the faucets, gas cylinders, O-rings just naming a few.

The time one takes to prepare a batch that will last a given period is also important. It is very evident that the use of bottles is time-consuming since you have to deal with one bottle to another ensuring its well filled and fitted. The case is different with the cylinders since you can be handling one or two in each preparation.

Carbonation is a major factor of consideration for one to come up with a perfect batch of beer. It is a bit challenging to regulate the levels of carbonation when using bottles. On the other hand, this other means of storage allows one to control the levels of carbonation. Others can have mechanisms that automatically regulates this effect.

It is not easy to carry the cylinder from one place to another. Bottles are very convenient to carry around since they are portable. Most fridges back at home are designed for bottles only . Putting a full cylinder in the freezer sounds crazy.

There is a lot of wastage associated with kegs. Here, every time one serves themselves, there is a considerable amount that will spill over and also the valves are not always perfect. With bottles, one will be picking and directly drink with minimal wastage.

Each of these methods has followers regardless of its downfalls. It is thus for one to check on the effects that they wish their beer to have to depend on the above factors of consideration and pick the method of their choice since both are valid.
