Purchasing And Getting Lobster Tails Shipped Properly

By Dennis Cox

When you go out to buy seafood, if you do not do this often, you might end up buying something that is spoilt. In most cases, unless you live near a large water body, you will find that you need to buy the sea food frozen. This will mean you might need to have your lobster tails shipped to where you are. When you are buying these products, you need to make sure they are of excellent quality.

Logically to remove the tails, the animals will first have to be dead. In order for them not to get spoilt, they quickly will need to be frozen at less than ten degrees Fahrenheit. If it is stored at any temperature above this, you will find that it will go off very quickly. You should carry a thermometer with you and check a temperature of the packages. If they are higher than recommended you need to alert the people in charge.

Sea food is very sensitive and if it gets contaminated, it could lead to serious health problems. Any physical damage to the meat will also lower the quality of the purchase. You need to ensure that all the containers are properly sealed when you get them. This assures you that they have not been opened, after they were packed.

When you are inspecting, you also should look at the lobster tails themselves. The meat should be white, or a slight pink and they will turn red once you cook them. If it has any black or yellow spots do not buy it. Also if the tail looks gray, it might be sign that the lobster was dead before the processing stage.

The person doing the shipping should be clean, and so should the vessel. In most cases, the ship might smell like fish but there should be no visible dirt. If you use someone whose methods of storage are unsanitary, you will be exposing yourself to contaminants, which could even make you feel sick. Ensure that when you get the sea food, you rinse it with cold water to clean it and get rid of any bacteria that may be on the surface.

These items are normally highly perishable. You are therefore advised, to cook them on the same day you purchase them. Once cooked, they can last for up to three days when refrigerated. To ensure that the food served is still rich in flavor, you should keep the tails frozen, and then leave them to thaw in the refrigerator before you cook them.

In case you want to buy the shipment for a private function and you do not know who to use, get references from someone at the local sea food market. You can also ask at a restaurant, and have them include your purchase while they order for theirs. If you cannot buy them in person, you can even order online.

For large family events or special dinners, you may want try something new and buying the whole lobster may not be in your budget. Getting the tails allow you to still eat the meat, at a slightly cheaper price. They can be cooked in a number of ways, and also paired with very many other dishes.
