When digging up holes in the ground and structure it with metal, bricks, or stones, you are making a fire pit. The purpose of having is to hold fire but not letting it scatter. Pre made pits are sold and are made available in many stores. According to some, fire pits should have at least five feet distance above the flame and should have a sixteen inches of circumference.

These are only required in order to be safe when containing a fire. These can be made by just simply digging up a hole and putting some bricks or rock pillars. There are two types of this. One is gas fueled and the other one is charcoal.

In a gas fueled type, it is usually fueled by either propane or natural gas. This has small, medium, or large sizes. Third is a square type. This is considered as a hybrid of the brazier and kettle. It is just a simple pan like the brazier and heat is adjusted simply. Fifth is hibachi which is traditional to the Japanese people. Hibachi in English means small cooking. It is made out from aluminum or cast iron.

Another one is kettle grill. This is very common for commercial uses. It is composed of charcoal an cooking grids, lid, lower chamber, venting system, and the legs. Next is cart which is similar to most typical that are being utilized. This can either be a kettle design or rectangular in form. It consists of charcoal and cooking grids and a hinged lid that is placed in the cart that has wheels.

Eighth are barrels that are believed as the most primitive ones. These are made out from steel barrels that is half lengthwise. Ceramic cookers are the more versatile than kettles since it is more efficient when it comes to retaining heat. These are being utilized for barbecuing, grilling, and smoking foods.

Like ceramic cookers, tandoor ovens can also be utilized in oven cooking and grilling. The food is placed on top of long skewers and is cooked by wood fire from the bottom of oven. The last one is portable type. These falls into either kettle or brazier category.

A hybrid grill is usually used in outdoor cooking. These can cook by using either charcoal, natural gas, or propane. This also combines the techniques of charcoal and wood grill.
